The short answer
Installed Tesla Powerwall 3 pricing varies by quantity and your electrical setup; you'll get an exact, itemized number in your proposal. On a $0-down lease/PPA the battery can be bundled into one monthly payment. Under NEM 3.0, a battery is what makes solar pay off.

Why pricing is a range
Installed cost depends on how many Powerwalls you need, your panel and electrical configuration, and backup goals. Rather than quote a misleading flat number, we give you an exact, itemized price in your proposal — and on a $0-down plan, the battery can be folded into a single monthly payment.
How many Powerwalls do you need?
It depends on your evening usage, whether you want whole-home or essentials backup, and whether you have an EV or heavy AC load. We size it to your real usage — no overselling extra capacity you won't use.
Why it's worth it under NEM 3.0
With low export credits, a battery is what turns solar into real savings: store cheap daytime solar, use it during the expensive 4–9 PM peak, and keep your home powered through outages. As a Tesla Premier Certified installer, we install the latest Powerwall to Tesla's standard.
What drives Tesla Powerwall 3 cost
There is no single sticker price for an installed Powerwall 3, and any company quoting you a flat number before seeing your home is guessing. The installed cost is built from a handful of real variables — how many units you need, the condition of your electrical panel, how much backup you want, and how the battery is financed. The table below shows which way each factor pushes your price so you can read a quote critically. Treat these as directional, not dollar figures: the only honest number is an itemized proposal sized to your home.
As a Tesla Powerwall Premier Certified installer, OC Solar handles the battery, electrical work, and permitting with in-house crews, so your quote reflects the actual scope of your install rather than a teaser rate with surprises later. Want your real number? Start with a free estimate.
| Cost factor | Effect on price |
|---|---|
| Number of Powerwalls | The single biggest driver. Each added 13.5 kWh unit raises both equipment and labor cost. Most SoCal homes need one to three; up to four run in parallel. |
| Backup scope (essentials vs. whole-home) | Whole-home backup usually adds wiring and sometimes a load-management device, pushing cost up versus an essentials-only backup loads sub-panel. |
| Main electrical panel condition | An older or maxed-out panel may need an upgrade or a sub-panel before a battery can be added — a meaningful add-on when required, $0 when your panel is already ready. |
| New solar vs. retrofit (AC vs. DC coupling) | Adding a Powerwall 3 to existing solar can require different coupling and extra equipment than a fresh solar-plus-battery design installed together, which is typically more efficient to wire. |
| Site and install complexity | Mounting location, conduit runs, gateway placement, and permit/utility requirements all add labor that varies home to home. |
| Financing path (cash/loan vs. $0-down) | On a $0-down lease or PPA the battery folds into one monthly payment and the financier claims the commercial §48E credit; cash or loan buyers pay up front with no federal residential §25D credit (it expired Dec 31, 2025). |
Directional guidance only — no dollar amounts are implied. Each home's wiring, panel, and backup goals are different, so the only accurate figure is an itemized quote. Get yours at /get-estimate. Pricing realities as of 2026; NEM 3.0 in effect.
Powerwall 3 vs. Enphase IQ Battery 10C
The Powerwall 3 isn't the only quality battery we install — Enphase's IQ Battery 10C is a strong alternative, and the right choice depends on your home, your existing equipment, and your priorities. The Powerwall 3 has a built-in solar inverter and high continuous output, which makes it efficient for new solar-plus-battery installs and demanding loads. The Enphase IQ Battery 10C is AC-coupled and microinverter-based, which can pair cleanly with existing or panel-level solar and carries a longer 15-year warranty. Both use safe, long-cycle lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) chemistry.
Here's an honest side-by-side on the public specs that actually matter. We'll recommend whichever fits your home — not whichever is easier to sell.
| Spec | Tesla Powerwall 3 | Enphase IQ Battery 10C |
|---|---|---|
| Usable capacity | 13.5 kWh | 10 kWh |
| Continuous power | 11.5 kW | Modular AC-coupled output (lower per-unit than Powerwall 3) |
| Battery chemistry | Lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) | Lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) |
| Warranty | 10-year manufacturer warranty | 15-year manufacturer warranty |
| Inverter | Integrated solar inverter (DC-coupled) | AC-coupled, works with Enphase microinverters |
| Best for | New solar-plus-battery installs and high continuous loads (EV charging, AC) | Homes with existing/microinverter solar, longer warranty priority, modular scaling |
Specs reflect each manufacturer's published figures as of 2026 and may be updated by the manufacturer; confirm current datasheets for your exact model. The right battery depends on your home and existing equipment — we size and recommend in your itemized proposal. NEM 3.0 in effect.
Powerwall installation: what's included
A complete Powerwall installation is more than a battery on a wall. Per Tesla's system design, every install pairs the Powerwall 3 unit (or units) with a backup control device — the Backup Gateway 2 or the compact, meter-mounted Backup Switch — that disconnects your home from the grid during an outage so the battery can power it. A full scope also covers mounting, wiring and conduit, the permit, city inspection, utility approval, and activation and monitoring in the Tesla app.
When you compare quotes, confirm all of that is actually in scope — and two items beyond it. First, backup coverage: essentials-only backup usually means a backup-loads sub-panel, while whole-home backup can add load management. Second, your main electrical panel: an older or maxed-out panel may need an upgrade before a battery can be added, and that should appear as its own itemized line, not a surprise. OC Solar handles the battery, electrical work, and permitting with in-house crews as a Tesla Powerwall Premier Certified installer, so your quote reflects the real scope of your home — start with a free estimate to see yours.
Tesla Powerwall 3 vs. older units (Powerwall 2 and Powerwall+)
The Powerwall 3 is Tesla's current generation — and the only Powerwall sold for new installations, since Tesla discontinued the Powerwall 2 and Powerwall+. All of them store about 13.5 kWh, but the Powerwall 3 delivers roughly double the continuous power (11.5 kW versus roughly 5.8 kW), integrates its own solar inverter, and uses lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) chemistry rather than the older units' NMC.
If you already own a Powerwall 2, nothing changes: your 10-year manufacturer warranty stays with the unit regardless of installer. If you're adding capacity to an existing system, the right configuration depends on your current equipment and coupling — we confirm what your setup supports in an itemized proposal rather than assuming.
| Spec | Powerwall 3 (current) | Powerwall 2 / Powerwall+ (discontinued) |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Tesla's current unit for new installs | Discontinued — no longer sold new; existing units remain covered by their warranties |
| Usable capacity | 13.5 kWh | 13.5 kWh |
| Continuous power | 11.5 kW | Roughly 5.8 kW |
| Solar inverter | Built in (integrated, DC-coupled) | Powerwall 2: separate solar inverter required; Powerwall+ bundled one |
| Battery chemistry | Lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) | Nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) |
| Warranty | 10-year manufacturer warranty | 10 years from each unit's original installation |
Specs per Tesla's published datasheets as of 2026; confirm current documents for your exact model. Whether a new unit can join an existing system depends on your equipment and coupling — we verify configuration in your proposal.
